National History

Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. was founded by Mrs. Lola Mercedes Parker,a graduate of Chicago Business College, on June 1st, 1929. The organization’s mission was “To encourage young women to enter the Business Field by means of business training”.   Taking the charge, she, along with seven other members, set forth to establish the organization as the first business sorority. 

As the sorority continues to celebrate its legacy, it takes pride in its continued participation in transforming communities through the philanthropy and service of its 9,000+ members. For more information, visit the National Website.

Mu Chapter History

Mu Chapter of Montgomery was chartered in 1946 with sever charter members: Fressie N. Maxwell, Mary B. Chambliss, Catherine Neal Johnson, Josie Lawrence, Annie Merriwether, Selena D. Moore and Elizabeth C. Charles.

Mu Chapter, better known as the “Marvelous Mu Chapter”, is a dynamic and diverse group of women of all ages, professions, and backgrounds. We are truly a “service” oriented organization that strives to give back with a focus on our mission of utilizing our time and resources to provide quality program and community services. Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, a National Business and professional organization, prides itself for being in existence for over 86 years fulfilling the legacy by supporting entrepreneurship and promoting our youth through planned programs and projects.
